France has secured their place in the European Championship 2024 Semifinals , becoming the second team
to advance. Alongside Spain, France is considered one of the top contenders for the title.
France’s journey through Euro 2024 has not been without challenges. Although they were
placed in a relatively easier group during the group stage, facing Austria, the Netherlands, and
Poland, their path has still been demanding.
France advanced to the round of 16 as the runner-up of Group D with only one win and two
draws in three matches played.
For their debut match in the group stage, France was paired against Austria in Merkur Speil-
Arena. France had a challenging match and had to ride on Maximilian Wober’s own goal to
edge 1-0 win against Austria.
In their second and third match against Netherlands and Poland, France was unable to secure a
clear win. France and Netherlands played out a goalless draw in their encounter where France’s
encounter Poland ended in a 1-1 match result.
One of the factors contributing to France’s draw against the Netherlands was the absence of
their captain, Kylian Mbappé. However, upon his return in the match against Poland, Mbappé
made an impact by scoring a goal for his country.
On their round of 16 match, France faced Belgium and secured a victory, advancing to the
quarterfinals thanks to an own goal by Jan Vertonghen.
In the second quarterfinal match, France secured a spot in the last four by defeating Portugal 5-
3 in the penalty shootout. The game went to penalties after both teams were unable secure a
clear victory in 120 minutes.
France’s quest for the Euro Championship has been somewhat lackluster. The team has reached
the semifinals, where they will face Spain.
However, France has yet to secure a decisive victory in this tournament, with all their wins coming from own goals and penalties.
