Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has personally identified Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman as a key target to address the club’s left-back deficit, advocating a move that could cost as much as €30m, according to a report from Catalunya Radio.

With the Blaugrana struggling to fund deals for high-priced options such as Luis Diaz (Liverpool) or Nico Williams (Athletic Club), the German tactician sees the Nigerian international as a dynamic and financially viable addition to bolster the team’s attacking options.

The 27-year-old arrives in Italy on the back of a stellar season, scoring 20 goals and providing 7 assists in 40 games for Atalanta, cementing his reputation as a dynamic, versatile attacker.

Flick rates Lookman in particular for his explosive pace and dribbling ability, giving Barcelona the directness they lack on the flanks. Tactical flexibility, comfortable playing on either wing or as a second striker; Cost-effective, with salary demands much lower than alternatives such as Marcus Rashford.

Although some sources suggest Atalanta could demand up to €60m, Lookman’s contract expires in June 2026, which would give Barcelona leverage to negotiate closer to €30m.

However, Barcelona could face competition from Premier League clubs such as Chelsea and Liverpool, who have also expressed an interest in the Nigerian forward.

Unconfirmed reports suggest Flick is hesitant due to Lookman’s past tensions with Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini, although the manager’s departure could ease that issue.

Flick has made strengthening the left wing a non-negotiable summer priority, and Lookman’s profile – a combination of productivity, affordability and adaptability – is well-suited to Barcelona’s limited finances.

As the club continue to track Williams and Diaz, Lookman appears to be the most operationally viable target. Deco and Barcelona’s sporting directors are now weighing up an initial offer, aware that rival bids could rise rapidly.

With pre-season preparations underway, Barcelona’s ability to secure Lookman for a reported €30m could define their transfer window – and Flick’s first full campaign in charge.
