Liverpool Eye 16-Point Lead as They Welcome Bottom-Placed Southampton

Liverpool are on the verge of stretching their lead at the top of the Premier League table to a commanding 16 points as they prepare to host Southampton at Anfield. The contrast between both sides could not be more striking—while the Reds continue their charge towards the title, the Saints are staring at almost certain relegation.

Arne Slot’s men have been in imperious form domestically, but their recent narrow winl to PSG in the Champions League round of 16 first leg match exposed some vulnerabilities, had in not being their goal keeper, Alison didn’t stand his ground, they would have conceded 3 or more goals. However, a match against Southampton presents the perfect opportunity for Liverpool to regain momentum.

Southampton’s struggles this season have been nothing short of disastrous. They sit rock bottom with just nine points from 27 matches, managing only two wins, three draws, and a staggering 22 defeats. While they are not mathematically relegated yet, all signs point to them being the first team to drop to the Championship.

In stark contrast, Liverpool have amassed 67 points—a staggering 55 more than their opponents. Their dominance over Southampton in recent years has also been evident, winning eight of their last ten encounters in all competitions, drawing one, and losing just once.
