Manchester City Sign Rayan Cherki from Lyon After Agreeing Personal Terms

Manchester City have signed Lyon talent Ryan Cherki, with the Premier League champions agreeing personal terms with the French attacking midfielder. The development accelerates Pep Guardiola’s squad rebuilding efforts following a trophyless season and the imminent departure of Kevin De Bruyne.
It is a major step in City’s bid to secure the services of the highly-rated 21-year-old, who has long been regarded as one of the most technically gifted young players in Ligue 1.
The attacking midfielder has been in fine form in the 2024/25 campaign, contributing 32 goals (12 goals, 20 assists) in all competitions for Lyon.
Cherki, who has been a regular for Lyon since making his debut at the age of 16, has committed to City after extensive talks with the French international, who has been keen on a move and has made his desire to join Guardiola’s project known.
Club-to-club talks began over the weekend, and City are finalising a formal offer expected to be in excess of €30m (£25.3m). Reports suggest that Cherki’s release clause is more complex than initially thought, with Lyon demanding around £34m.
City are aiming to complete the transfer quickly to integrate him into pre-season preparations. Cherki’s arrival is in line with a wider refresh under Guardiola. Left-back Ryan Eto’o (Wolves) remains a priority target, with talks progressing for a deal worth £35-45m. The club are also strengthening their academy, signing 15-year-old Sheffield Wednesday striker Kellan Cadamarteri.
