Manchester United beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday, their first Premier League win under manager Ruben Amorim since 2016.

The win was a significant milestone for Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, making it the first time in his tenure that he has won two Premier League games in a row.

The game started in dramatic fashion as Brian Mbeumo put Manchester United ahead 62 seconds after kick-off, quieting the Anfield crowd.

Despite an early setback, Liverpool dominated possession and created a number of chances throughout the first half.

Cody Gakpo hit the woodwork three times before finally equalising in the 78th minute.

The tie was short-lived, as six minutes later Harry Maguire headed in Fernandes’ cross with a pinpoint header to move United up to ninth in the table.

The defeat was Liverpool’s fourth consecutive defeat in competitions, “We created enough to win, but our finishing and defensive focus wasn’t there,” Slott admitted after the game.

For Manchester United, the win could be a crucial momentum-builder as Amorim looks to restore confidence in his team.
