After a hard-fought victory against Switzerland in a penalty shootout, England is one step closer
to claiming the trophy. However, they must first win their semifinal match against the
Netherlands.
England managed to claim a narrow victory against Switzerland thanks to Bukayo Saka’s
equalizer on 80 th minute of the match. After a goalless first half, Switzerland scored the opening
goal in the 75 th minute but Saka equalized the score with a stunning long-range left-footed shot.
With a tight contest between both teams, the game went into penalties in which England
clinched the victory with Manuel Akanji’s penalty miss.
On Netherland’s side, they had a 2-1 victory over Turkey in Olympiastadion Berlin. Similar to
England’s match, Turkey initially took the lead at 35 th minute. Netherland’s equalized the score
with defender Stefan de Vrij scoring the equalizer. Mert Muldur’s own goal at 76 th minute of the
match sealed the victory for Netherland.
Both England and the Netherlands have been walking a fine line throughout the tournament.
England advanced from the group stage with two draws and one win, and almost faced an early
exit in the round of 16 against Slovakia.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands finished third in their group with one win, one draw, and one loss. However, they had a dominant performance in the round of 16, securing a 3-0 victory against Romania.
Although both teams had a slow start in the Euro tournament, they have been steadily
improving and making progress as the series has continued.
