Tension Grows Between Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid Stars, Reports Suggest

Real Madrid’s winless run extended to three games after Sunday’s draw, leaving them one point ahead of Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

The Santiago Bernabeu has been rocked by controversy following an explosive report by Spanish journalist Jorge Pican, which claimed that the relationship between manager Xabi Alonso and key figures within the Real Madrid squad had “completely broken down”.

According to the report, several first-team players now want Alonso to be sacked, and the situation has reached a point where “significant members of the club’s hierarchy” believe “he needs to be sacked”.

The shocking report suggests deep discontent within the dressing room. While specific details about the nature of the fallout remain scarce, the widespread allegations point to a serious breakdown in communication and trust between the coach and his players.

This is not the first time whispers of tension have been heard. In recent weeks, major outlets such as The Athletic have reported on a taut relationship between Alonso and Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior.

The winger is said to be unhappy with his tactical role, particularly being asked to play on the right wing, and has reportedly been frustrated by being substituted during recent matches.

Vinicius Junior told president Florentino Perez last month that he would not renew his contract—which expires in 2027—while tensions with Alonso remain, stemming from tactical choices such as starting him on his less-preferred wing and frequently substituting him.

Club sources have widely denied any significant tension between Alonso and the team. The most reliable, tier-1 journalists covering Real Madrid, such as José Félix Díaz and Mário Cortegana, have not confirmed these extreme claims of a revolt or imminent dismissal.

Manager Alonso himself has consistently played down any internal conflict in his press conferences, often praising his team’s commitment and spirit.

The coming days will be crucial for Alonso. The club’s performance on the pitch and the body language between players and staff will be scrutinised more than ever.

One thing is certain: the pressure on Xabi Alonso has been increased to unprecedented levels, and his every decision will now be seen in the light of these damning reports
